All pricing is based on Incoming Weight per batch and are charged at ¼ lb.increments.
All incoming fiber is washed by Stacey’s Spinning Haven to ensure consistent quality in the finished product. Fiber typically receives 2 wash cycles, 1 borax rinse, and 2 water rinse cycles using environmentally friendly products, including a blend of Dawn dish soap and Shaklee Basic H.
Customers may choose to pre-wash fiber to reduce incoming weight and shipping costs. As pricing is all-inclusive and based on incoming weight, pre-washing does not change processing rates, but may reduce overall cost by lowering the weight of the fiber submitted.
Fiber must be washed at the proper temperature, as most residential water heaters do not reach the temperatures required and may need to be supplemented. If pre-washing, we request the use of unscented soaps only.
Please contact us prior to submission to discuss your washing process. All pre-washed fiber will receive a short wash and rinse at the mill to remove any remaining soap or oils.
There is No minimum weight for washing or carding, but the minimum charge is for 1 pound.
The price includes: washing, picking
Carding is the heart of the mill. This process aligns individual fiber strands to create a smooth, consistent preparation. It is also the stage where fibers can be blended to achieve custom colorways or fiber combinations.
All fiber is washed, picked, and carded to ensure quality and consistency in the final product.
Fiber Preparation
All fiber is washed, picked, and carded to prepare it for spinning. Blending can be incorporated during this stage
Drawframe
Rovings are combined and drawn out to improve fiber alignment, consistency, and blending. Multiple passes help create a uniform preparation for spinning
Pin Drafting
A refinement step following the drawframe. Fiber is passed through pinned rollers that further align and control the fibers, producing a smoother, more consistent roving with improved uniformity—ideal for finer yarns and precise blends
Spinning
Prepared roving is spun into single strands. Yarn thickness is determined by the desired final weight (lace, sport, DK, worsted, bulky).
Plying
Singles are combined to create a balanced 2-ply or 3-ply yarn.
Finishing
Yarn is washed and air dried to remove any residual oils from processing.
Skeining
Yarn is returned as skeins. Standard skeins are approximately 200 yards and tied in multiple locations for stability.
